ICMA® (Institute of Certified Management Accountants) is the certification affiliate of IMA. ICMA is responsible for developing, administering, and grading the CMA exam; establishing the policies and procedures for the CMA program; and for ensuring the program’s overall integrity. The ICMA Board of Regents is responsible for setting the policies, and the ICMA staff is responsible for operations.

The CMA exam is organized into two parts, which can be taken in any order. Each exam part is four hours in length and includes 100 multiple-choice questions and two 30-minute essay

    A. External Financial Reporting Decisions (15%)
    B. Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting (30%)
    C. Performance Management (20%)
    D. Cost Management (20%)
    E. Internal Controls (15%)

  • 5 hours
    Financial Decision Making - Part 2

    A. Financial Statement Analysis (25%)
    B. Corporate Finance (20%)
    C. Decision Analysis (20%)
    D. Risk Management (10%)
    E. Investment Decisions (15%)
    F. Professional Ethics (10%)

You must register to take at least one exam part within the first 12 months of entering the program and must complete both exam parts within three years.



Testing is available in January & February; May & June; September & October. Candidates residing in Lebanon can sit for the test at Amideast Beirut.



To be certified as a CMA, candidates must fulfill both an education requirement and an experience requirement in addition to passing the exam.

You should have:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Foundational knowledge of economics, basic statistics, and financial accounting

Two continuous years of professional experience in management accounting or financial management, includes: Preparation of financial statements - Financial planning & analysis - Monthly, quarterly, and year-end close - Auditing (external or internal) - Budget preparation & reporting - Manage general ledger and balance sheets - Forecasting - Company investment decision-making  - Costing analysis - Risk evaluation
